Back in 2017, the Trophy was one of the very first in Europe to host a gravel marathon. Meanwhile there are three very popular routes - as nothing beats like biking this vast network of gravel, forest and paved side roads surrounded by most unique mountains and lakes of the Dachstein-Salzkammergut region.
The longest gravel route promises even more gravel fun: Starting in Bad Ischl, the 93.3-kilometer route leads through the Salzkammergut. The additional section from Bad Ischl to Obertraun is largely flat, passing through Bad Goisern and along Lake Hallstatt – offering magnificent panoramic views and a slightly longer approach time to the first climb. From Obertraun onward, the Gravel.one route is almost identical to the C-Course of the MTB marathon; only the starting loop and the extremely steep climb to the Hallstatt salt mountain are omitted. Due to the total elevation gain of 2,141 meters, a suitable gear ratio for climbing is still recommended.
The 54-kilometer route is significantly easier from a riding perspective. It covers a manageable 1,236 meters of elevation gain and also starts in the imperial city of Bad Ischl. And for beginners and juniors, there's a gravel category on the shortest Trophy route. This 22-kilometer loop through the Weißenbach Valley, with 567 meters of elevation gain, starts in Bad Goisern.
The advertised age categories will be scored for each route. The gravel bikers' times will also count towards the slow-motion ranking. However, only mountain bikes are permitted in the various age group and team rankings, as well as in all other special Trophy categories!
