New participants record on the 15th edition of Salzkammergut-MTB-Trophy in Bad Goisern
A round-trip to the hell. The Czech Fojtik conquers the Salzkammergut under extreme conditions and with a fabulous time of 10 hours 37 minutes!
The Czech Ondrej Fojtik won on the extreme distance of 211km and 7000 meter of elevation of the 15th edition of the Salzkammergut-MTB-Trophy 2012!
Almost from the start a strong quartett dictated the race: last year winner and local hero Wolfgang Krenn (AUT), 4 time Marathon Champ Max Friedrich (GER), winner of the Olympic games and worldchampion Bart Brentjens (NED) and winner of the crocodile trophy Ondrej Fojtik (CZE).
At the beginning it looked like, the former winner of 2011, Wofgang Krenn form Lienz/Austria will be able to repeat his victory. After 80km, though, he called it a day “The start and the first 2 hours felt reasonable good” so the evidently spent Styrian. An on setting viral cold, however forced him to withdraw from the race
The race has been decided on the uphill!
It turned into a battle of three countries: the Dutch Bart Brentjens, the 4 time German Marathon Champion Max Friedrich and the Czech Ondrej Fojtik pulled away after Krenn gave up. The fight has been decided on the crest up to Raschberg as well as to Rossalm, between Hallstatt und Gosau! Fojtik crossed the finish line with a phenomenal time of 10 hours 37min, on the main square of Bad Goisern, followed by Bart Brentjens at 7 minutes. “It’s been extremely tough! At kilometer 150 I had a crisis, and I lost all hopes to keep up with the high tempo. “Those are the words of the victor in the immediate interview” so the grinning Goldi, who then quickly sought his warm shelter.
Goldi surrenders after 135km!
Andreas Goldberger gave it a try on the extreme distance, pulled out, however, at km 135 “ Until that point all went to my plans, however I didn’t want to take chances when the heavy rain started to come down.” His participation for next year is nailed down. “I will then most definitely finish the extreme 211km.

Natascha Binder (GER) delivered a marvelous performance by crossing the finish line with 14 hours 6 minutes followed by no less excellent Michela Ton from Italy. The podium has been completed by Anja Dinter (GER)
The Austrian Christoph Soukup on the top of the podium, winning in the 119-distance!
On the B-distance [119km] the obvious winner was Christoph Soukup from Berndorf. Followed closely by Jukka Vastaranta, the 2011 Marathon-vice-European Champion in Kleinzell. An incredibly strong performance has been showed by Hermann Pernsteiner from Lower Austria who took 3rd.
In the women category of the B-distance has been won by the German Barbara Kaltenhauser, followed by Sabine Sommer and Verena Krenslehner.
Hill-Climb, Junior Trophy and Unicycle Downhill on Sunday
For the first time in the Trophy history the Hill-Climb has been featured on Sunday starting in Bad Goisern’s center leading up to Predigstuhl. Under unwelcoming weather conditions, littered with heavy rain, 16riders lined up and had to conquer 5.1km and 500 meter of elevation. The race was won by Eisl Bernhard (AUT) clocking up 25:05 minutes, followed by Hofinger Andreas (AUT) atvon 25:35 and Wagler Julius (GER) at 27:10 minutes
The ASVÖ SCOTT Junior-Trophy saw in categories U5 up to U17 just over 300 starters... It was a true spectacle that was turned in by these juniors, and was astounding alike how greatly they performed despite hostile weather conditions.
„Mud bed and fun“: The unicycle -Downhill
This year the contest presented an extraordinary spectacle on the race track. 80 participants of 5 different nations had their fun on the 4.1km downhill parcours from Predigstuhl into the center of Goisern. At the end of the show, Jakub Rulf from Czech Repuplic had the best time of16:36 minutes, who didn’t give any slight of chance to Mark Lavis from Australia - who scored 5th – nor to the second runner Johannes Rohrmoser of Flachau Austria. The podium was completed by Austrian Markus Pröglhöfer from Burgenland.
The women podium, sandwiched in red-white-red colors, was won by Cornelia Panozzo from Ebreichsdorf followed by twin sisters Tina Pötz (2.) and Alexandra Pötz from Birkfeld/Styria!
New Austrian Champion: Johannes Rohrmoser and Cornelia Panozzo!
Under the downhill contest the Austrian Champion was awarded as well. Cornelia Panozzo and Johannes Rohrmoser are the new 2012 Unicycle Austrian Champion!
Summary/Review/Statistiks :
The total number of weather-proof participants of the anniversary edition of the Trophy reached a new high of 4000. That is a new record. Based on the wide spectrum of distances, ranging from 22 km up to 211km, the number of age-group and professional riders was gigantic.
Approximately 20 000 spectators saw and the venue as well as cheered on the actives, despite partially unfriendly weather. Along all those contests there was a huge range of side events that made the show all the more colorful. Just to name a few, helicopter-flights, expo featured by 70 exhibitors and the famous O3 disco.
