Stefan Kogler (AUT) wins in a canter the extreme distance
Gerrit Glomser despite Schnaps -Doping only position four!

newsbild

The 9th Salzkammergut Trophy is history - with an all-time record of exact 2.222 participants from 25 nations. Gerrit Glomser (Team Volksbank) was not in perfect shape when he passed the finishing line in Bad Goisern reaching postion 4. Despite the Swiss stone pine schnaps doping and the as ever great audience in the Salzkammergut he was not able to compete with the best.

Position 2 and position 3 for Danowski (GER) and Hütter (GER)
Stefan Kogler from St. Gilgen won the palm rather suprisingly by defeating one of the big favourites and runner-up Stefan Danowski from Hamburg (Stevens Jeantex Team). Jörg Hütter (Kurbelix Racing Team) came in third. "Well let's go the whole hog - on full speed" the happy winner said the day before at the bikers' presentation and that he was meaning business became clear at the first hill.

First Woman under 13 hours!
In 2002 Andrea Huser (SUI) became European Champion on the 100km distance in Bad Goisern. This year she doubled the distance and came in first among the women after 12:56:20. Last year's winner Anita Waiss finished as runner-up and Sibylle Riesen (SUI) passed the finishing line in third position and Legtenberg Klaartje (NED) was the fourth woman to manage the extreme distance over 200 km. Only Hedvig Nagy from Hungary had to give up which means that the women are the tougher ones since the drop out rate was only 20%. Whereas the men had a drop out rate of one third - out of 214 bikers only 142 passed the finishing line!

German Tripple Victory on the 100 kilometer distance!
The classic 100 km was a pure thrill. The team mates Wieltschnig Silvio (AUT) and Swanepoel Ben Melt (RSA) from Team Fiat/Rotwild drove an excellent tactical race and came in first (04:35:12) and second, beating Beaten Sam from Belgien. The podium was German among the women bikers. Rosenstiel Alexandra (Corratec World Team) came in with 05:31:22 bevor runner-up Brachtendorf Kerstin and Grona Sabine (both Team Fiat/Rotwild). Best biker from the Merida 100 Marathon Team was Matt Wood (GBR) who became 21st in total and 7th in his age group. Team mate Meggie Bichard (GBR) was the best female British biker on position 16.

Roland Stauder (ITA) and Birgit Braumann (AUT) win the short distance
The 53 kilometers distance was an easy-going one for the South Tyrolean Roland Stauder. For the marathon expert it seemed to be rather a training when leaving everyone behind with his time of 02:10:17 leading more than six minutes on Bauer Christian (AUT) and Krenn Wolfgang (AUT). For the next year's 10th anniversary of the Trophy, Stauder considers tackling the 203 kilometer distance.
The Salzburger Braumann Birgit (02:50:27) won the race among the women.

Slow Motion Rating
The Slow Motion Rating was again a hugh success this year. No less than 35 teams participated in this special rating. This year the "slowest" was a team from Slovakia. The "Slovak Snail Highlanders" were in total 382 hours on the road and therfore took 75 Deuter Hydro Lite 2.0 rucksacks back home. The "VDO C3 DS" speedos were handed over to the last year's winner team. 55 "2RadChaoten" were 332 hours in action. Coming in third the German - Czech team Mad East Challenge received the UVEX Sportsonic SC glasses.

The "Merida 100 Marathon Team" was in total almost 124 hours on the road, still they missed position 5 and therfore the prize - Continental Explorer Tyres for all 17 team bikers - by less than 5hours!
