Ondrej Fojtik (CZE) wins Trophy Extreme Course

Only 456 bikers – from initially 557 registered – showed up at the start of the 211 km ultra distance at 05:00 o’clock in the morning, 288 reached the finishing line within the time limit. Title holder Wolfgang Krenn (Team Zwillingscraft) set the pace at the beginning, however after two hours he had to slow down and finally drop out of the race due to an emerging influenza. Olympic winner Bart Brentjens (NED) took over the leading position until the Ischler Berg, when the Czech Ondrej Fojtik (Toyota Dolak) attacked. The Crocodile-Trophy-Winner 2011 passed the finishing line after 10h37m00s – with a clear lead of more than 7 minutes! Third place and only 2m40s behind Brentjens, the four times German Marathon Champion Max Friedrich (Ergon Racing Team)!

The women competition was won by Natascha Binder (GER) in 14h06m18s, second runner up Michaela Ton from Italy. Anja Dinter from Dresden came in third place.

Trophy Bike-Check

This year for the first time there was a mandatory bike check up for all participants of the extreme course – in order to increase the safety standards. Erich Reith and his team from Sport Scherz in Wörschach inspected almost 200 bikes. His resume: “it is shocking, with which material some participants intended to bike the race. We had to reject about every fifth bike, in most cases the brake pads were severely worn.“

In the course of the inspection we also collected some statistical data. Cannondale was the most popular brand among the participants of the 211 km distance.
